Who Ya Callin’ Baby?

The twins are getting bigger everyday. No longer are they my little babies (*weep* tinktink)

The toys that they have previously used only a short time ago to help them walk around, now they are in full control of… Logan knowing exactly what button plays the music, and Ryan encouraging his little brother.

For every single person who said enjoy each moment as they grow up faster than you’d ever think possible, you are absolutely right!

Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents September 29, 2012

I’m reading, yes reading! I’ve rediscovered the joys of reading. When do I have time, you ask? It helps not to have a tv in the house when you’re a read-aholic like me, and also going to bed to read a little after the boys go down to sleep.

Reading Smeading!

I went to the public library to pick up some books to help me become a better parent. Most of you will say it comes naturally, or it is instinctual, but I want to be a kick-ass parent, so I am trying to gather as much knowledge as possible in order to raise two super-adjusted, well-rounded (or not, if they are so inclined to a particular talent) children. So I am reading.

At the moment, the book I am reading is by Deepak Chopra. If you haven’t heard of Deepak, then you most likely aren’t a new-agey hippy wannabee like I am. He writes in his book, The Seven Spiritual Laws For Parents, that there are 7 simple laws to teach your children to help them think with their spirit, and not just with their mind. I like that. Think with their spirit.

Everything Is Possible!

First Law:

Everything is possible.

Second Law:

If you want to get something, give it.

Third Law:

When you make a choice, you change the future.

Go With The Flow!

Fourth Law:

Don’t say no – go with the flow.

Fifth Law:

Every time you wish or want, you plant a seed.

Sixth Law:

Enjoy the journey.

Seventh Law:

You are here for a reason.

He writes that in a perfect world, the perfect parent would show only love, and be only love.

Heck, even I can do that! (Especially while they aren’t talking that is ;)

You’re Goin’ Climb What Dada?

I’m working today, or at least I should be working but I’m writing this blog instead oops, but while I’m ‘working’, the hubby has taken the kids with him bouldering with his buddy, Jeff.

Take Me With You Dada!

I wondered how this would work, him on a rock, the kids in the dirt below, but according to the photos he just sent me, I guess it’s working out pretty well!

Pre-Loved The Way To Go September 18, 2012

The kidlets have been extremely lucky with gifts of pre-loved, gently-used toys. Over the course of the year, we have been given almost everything the babies could possibly ask for from hand-me-downs by our wonderful friends and family.

Push Me Faster Mommy!

Sure, having enough money to buy all the latest gadgets and gizmos might sound great at first, but then again, maybe not. Maybe teaching the kids to appreciate what they have and the value of recycling and re-using is better in the long run.

Just this weekend alone, we were given this very cool mini merry-go-round…

You Get A Thumbs-Up Dada!

… as well as a Tiny Tot slide set.

The Ol’ Pump N Dump August 24, 2012

I went out Saturday night.

It was my time.

A few months ago, the hubby went to the city to watch a concert with his lil sis and didn’t come home until 3am. It’s hard to fall asleep when your other half doesn’t come home until late. I said to him then: When the boys start sleeping through the night, it’s my turn to go out and par-tay!

And that was this past Saturday night. It was our friends T-Bone and Jude’s wedding out in the Callaghan and everyone was going. It was hard to leave and I hemmed and hawed forever about whether I should go, but in the end, my instinctual drive for having a good time won out.

I donned my best party frock (or at least the one that fits the best *sigh*) and put on my dancing shoes and party hat. I was excited.

However, there is a problem with not partying for a while combined with free booze at a wedding… yeah, you can imagine. First, there were the margaritas-in-a-can. The champagne toasts were lovely. So were the ice-cold carafes of sangria. Then the gin and tonic my friend gave me… ohhh. The music was fun, the bride gorgeous and the groom ziplined straight through the crowd to the ‘altar’. It was a blast.

When I was dropped home that night, at 1:30am or so, I suddenly realised that I had to ‘pump and dump’. It’s when you spend 20 minutes expressing the precious nectar, only to drain it all down the sink, that you second guess your decision to drink at all. What a waste!

The next day I read on a reliable breastfeeding website that “less than 2% of the alcohol consumed by the mother reaches her blood and milk, and that alcohol does not accumulate in breastmilk, but leaves the milk as it leaves the blood”. While this might be true, and I knew the boys wouldn’t be up for another 4 hours or so and I drank a gallon of water, I still felt the need to start with a fresh batch of milk for the bubbas in the morning. Truth be told, I felt about ready to pop, as embarrassing as it is. It was like sleeping hovered over two grapefruit-shaped rocks sticking into one’s ribs. Or trying to lie comfortably on one’s back with two weights pressing heavily upon one’s chest. Either way, they needed to be emptied, the ol’ milk bags, jugs, double lattes, whatever they are called.

Was It Worth It? Heck Ya!

But man oh man did I have a good time!

What A Way To Make A Living… August 7, 2012

Having spent the past seven out of, well, seven days working overtime during this very busy, peak time for the resort town of Whistler, I sure have missed the boys! Hubby included, of course. So when I get home at 5pm, I feel the urgency to get on the floor, at their eye level and act like a little kid playing toys with them. Which makes doing anything else around the house, like the laundry, or watering the garden, or cleaning up the garage seem so inconsequential. Until I realise the boys have run out of clean pajamas, or all the dishes are still in the dishwasher, or the plants are starting to die. Then I rush around like a headless chicken after the boys fall asleep for the night trying to get stuff done before I crash into my bed, only to repeat early the next day.

Mommy? Is That You? I Don’t Recognize You Anymore

Before we moved into our new home, we even contemplated staying in the dinky place we were in, just so we could afford for me not to have to go back to work. But we succumbed to the lure of a bigger house, two-car garage, heck even a dishwasher (I have a dishwasher now! I feel so grown up!), and hence the big mortgage. So off to work I go, ‘cuz we owe, we owe, we owe.

Who Are These Joneses? And Where Did They Put Mommy??

Is this what they mean when they say keeping up with the Joneses? Or is it just moving ahead in life? I don’t know. What I do know is that every time I walk through my new front door, I feel pretty fricken awesome. I think, sheesh, I can paint my hallway fuchsia pink if I wanted to! I think, I’m not paying someone else’s mortgage! I think, hey, I can I can pee in my own backyard! If that was the sort of thing I wanted to do.

Well, At Least We Have Each Other

Then I wonder, are the boys missing me and our one-on-one time? Which makes me more than ever conscious of spending quality time with them. As I wash the dinner dishes, or wipe the kitchen counters, I remember that I should be playing with them right now because we only have one or two more hours before they go to bed tonight! Get out of the kitchen woman, and go play with your babies! They are going to grow before your eyes and soon won’t even want to play with you!

Lately, its actually been great to just give up the cleaning and go play. But where’s all my clean underwear?!?

Lake Time Is Fun Time July 27, 2012

For the twins’ birthday, Auntie Brynn and Uncle Ian bought the boys a couple of sun-shade boats,  and yesterday was the perfect day to give them a go. It was sunny, I didn’t have to work until the evening and I had a second pair of hands to help me.

Hey Bro, This Is Cool Eh?

My mum and I walked to One Mile Lake with the twins in their BOB stroller, and once there, we proceeded to set-up our mini-camp for the sunny afternoon. While she tried to feed the two, easily-distracted monkeys, I popped a blood vessel blowing up the little shade boats. With re-enforced leg holes and a sun shade canopy that attached across the top of the dinghies, I couldn’t wait to plop the kiddies in to see them float.

Immediately both babies wiggled their legs through the holes and with their tippy-toes pointed, they walked along the sandy bottom, thrilled to be able to move so freely. To me, I chuckled watching them, as they reminded me of the ballerina hippos from the Disney movie, Fantasia. Ryan sat back and enjoyed the float, while Logan leaned forward as far as the floatation device allowed and peered over the side into the murky water, an opaque green colour from melting glacier runoff.

Mommy, I Am Having So Much Fun!

With little chubby feet kicking, arms splashing and baby dragon squeals of delight, the boys looked as though they could spend all day in the water, which would have been just fine by me… if only for the looming dark clouds gathering at the far corner of the sky.

I Like The Lake

Then we heard the thunder, booming overhead like a giant’s roar, and mum and I jumped to action, grabbed a babe each and cut our little lake swim short. We walked through the front door just in time to miss the rain and lightening.
